Winter Trees
William Carlos Williams – 1883-1963
All the complicated details
of the disattiring are completed!
A liquid moon
moves gently among
the long branches.
Thus having prepared their buds
against a sure winter
the wise tress
stand sleeping in the cold.

This presentation appears to be a brief but evocative poem. The poet has used a few simple yet powerful phrases to create an atmosphere of stillness and serenity. The image of a “liquid moon” moving gently among the “long branches” suggests a calm and peaceful night scene. The reference to the trees having “prepared their buds against a sure winter” hints at a season of dormancy and hibernation. The phrase “wise trees” adds an element of personification to the natural world, suggesting that the trees possess a certain wisdom and foresight. Overall, the poem seems to convey a sense of quiet anticipation and a readiness for change. The language is concise and carefully chosen, leaving much to the reader’s interpretation and imagination.
