Zoe,
Amazing job on your presentation for informed consent!
This topic is very important in any modality or area of healthcare. Especially more geared towards this field, we want our patients comfortable with all the exams we are performing-we have more invasive imaging than others.
Factors like you mentioned, underage, impaired, and possible language barries are topics we could be dealing with everyday. If someone is not prepared for these situations, our care of treatment and role in diagnosis will not go great at all.
Again, amazing job. Have a great weekend!

This was a great presentation that I really enjoyed watching! I really liked learning about informed consent because it is so relatable to our everyday lives as sonographers. We want the patients to know and understand what is going to happen and want them to be aware that the care they are going to receive is ultimately up to them if they want it. As we also learned informed consent is the basis for Respect for Autonomy regarding bioethics.
I think this presentation is great for not only us as sonographers to watch and learn the importance of informed consent but also for patients, so they are aware of why we do these types of things.
Again, great job! 🙂

Hi Zoe,
Your presentation was informative and was very well organized. It touched on a very important topic, especially for those in the health care field. I am glad you spoke on the language barrier and how that can impact the quality of care a patient receives and can present an obstacle for patients to seek care. It’s also really important for us to be able to clearly communicate to the patient about the diagnostic exam or the procedure that will take place that way patients understand what they are potentially agreeing to. Since it varies from state to state it would also be a good idea for healthcare providers to familiarize themselves with what minors are able to consent to without a guardian. Good job on your presentation!

Great presentation Zoe! I thought this was a great topic to discuss and you did a good job explaining how consent is needed for various exams and procedures that we perform. I especially enjoyed how you discussed “real life” scenarios, specifically with language barriers. You pointed out that there are times when there are no certified interpreters available who speak the patients native language and we do end up relying on a family member which is obviously still a hurdle in the medical field. Good job!
