This presentation is on ergonomics in sonography. Ultrasound is a physically demanding job and very hard on your body if you aren’t cautious of your ergonomics. Having poor ergonomics can lead to WRMSD, forcing you to leave the ultrasound field. In this presentation you will learn what ergonomics is, how to improve it and why it’s important to practice good ergonomics.

Excellent presentation Maddy! I like how instead of just explaining proper ergonomics you also showed images of poor ergonomics and how to effectively change them. It was also a great point to bring up that we have to take care of ourselves before we can take care of others. I think that is a great life lesson in general, but definitely applies to this profession.

I thought this presentation was very informative and a good reminder of how we should be scanning in order to preserve our bodies to be able to work for a long time in this field. I know personally, I don’t always remember to stay ergonomically correct while scanning patients, especially if you need to be at an awkward angle to get the image. WRMSD are serious and can be career ending, it’s important to remember the things you discussed in this video so we can save our bodies in this field!

Hi Maddy! I think it’s great that you chose the topic of ergonomics because it’s such a big part of everyday life for sonographers. It’s crazy to think that little things like not taking enough breaks or holding the transducer too tight can make such a big impact. I like the diagram you added it was a great visual representation of everything you’ve mentioned. I think your presentation was awesome!

This was a very informative presentation that can be applied to many different professions. Taking the time to be aware of your position can prevent many work-related injuries. I have stacked books under monitors at previous places of employment so I could get that perfect height level to prevent a strain. It is heart breaking to know that 45% of sonographers had symptoms within the first three years. Great presentation and take care of yourself!
