Taryn,
I find theranostics quite interesting, and my interest in this modality stems from having a family member with cancer. After listening to your presentation, I believe theranostics has multiple benefits. Unfortunately, this is the first time I am hearing about it. Currently, in the U.S., is theranostics used as an active treatment plan for cancer patients, or is it used for clinical research? One of the most significant benefits I took away from your presentation was that theranostics does not damage healthy cells, as routine chemotherapy would. Surgery or chemotherapy can be harsh on an individual’s body, time-consuming, and expensive. I would like to know whether this treatment has any side effects and the typical cost for an individual. Lastly, does this treatment work better for different kinds of cancers? Theranostics is something I’m interested in and might keep up to date on because I want the best treatment options and outcomes for my loved ones.
As you know, I am in your class as a Radiography student, and I find this modality interesting from a career standpoint. Upon graduation, is this something I could get right into, or do I have to become certified in MRI, nuclear med, etc.? Also, when working with theranostics, can the imaging exam be done on the day of ingestion, or does the patient have to come back within a specific time frame? As interesting as this modality sounds, my main concern with working with such sick individuals is the effect it may have on my mental health. Is this something you would be interested in doing? Also, what sparked your interest in theranostics? Overall, you did a great job presenting your PowerPoint. I’m so glad I came across this modality because it has opened my eyes personally and professionally for the near future.

MaKenzie,
You ask great question and I appreciate that you asked them. I would like to look into it and it does interest me in our line of work. What sparked my interest was it was so new and I wanted to look into it.

Hi Tayrn,
I have never heard of theranostics before listening to your presentation. It sounds exciting and could be a great alternative way to diagnosing and treating cancer. Is theranostics a multi-step process? Where in the patient ingest a pill that will locate the cancer and then another radio-active drug is used to treat the cancer or is it all in the same pill? Is this an FDA approved treatment? Does it work on any type of cancer or is it only for specific types of cancer?
Are you interested in this as a career option after you graduate from the Radiology program or any of the other modalities you mentioned used for imaging while using theranostics?
Great work on your presentation it was very informative and I learned something new.

Thank you for taking time to look at my project. To answer some of your questions theranostics is FDA approved. I tho I that it’s in its earliest stages for cancer so I don’t think it’s for a specific cancer. Great questions.

Hi Taryn,
Very informative presentation, you have peaked my interest in the new and evolving type of therapy for treating cancers. As medical imaging technologies are advancing it is so cool to see new therapies that can help treat our patient’s cancers and even protect the healthy cells around the mass that is being targeted. It is so interesting that something has been developed to cure a cancer, and protect those healthy cells that are needed to help make way for remission in our patients. In your research did you happen to see where the nearest facility to us performs this type of procedure? I wonder how long it will take for this type of treatment to become easy access to patients across the United States. I have so many questions for you on this topic. Since your patient has to swallow a radioactive pill, does this make them radioactive for a certain amount of time and do they have to avoid people during that time? Is this something you may be interested in pursuing for a career? Very nice research on something that is new to our field, great introduction for a new type of therapy that will definitely benefit so many people. I hope this makes a big break through in medicine!

Hi Taryn,
I did not know it was used mostly for cancer, that is very interesting that it leaves the healthy cells alone while attacking the cancer cells. What is the name of the drug used in Theranostics? It is nice to know that many modalities can assist in seeing where the interactions between radiation and cancer are. Very informative and straight to the point, nice presentation.
