This semester, I have explored the roles women have played in American society. I decided to explore the status of females during the 1940s and 1950s because this era for females was a turning point of their role in society.
What did life look like for women during the 1940s and 1950s?
- Women helped fill in job roles during WWII while men were fighting overseas
- Women proved they could do the same job as men and this opened up for more opportunities for women in the 1950s.
- Once WWII was over, the men came back home and started to fulfill their previous job positions, but a majority of women still kept their jobs.
- In the 1950s, women either worked or became housewives/mothers.
