Good job, Ashley! I find this topic so interesting! I have listened to a few podcasts on them throughout the years and still love learning more about it. It’s so crazy to look back and see what dangers were lurking back then and how oblivious most people were!

Hi Ashley!
Great job presenting on the Radium Girls, very informative presentation. Its crazy what people had to go through before we knew how devastating prolonged exposure to radiation can be. The images you included did a really good job of showcasing the different symptoms that could have occured because of the radium paint the girls were consistently working with. I’m glad we have a better understanding of this in order to prevent it from happening again.

Very interesting topic Ashley! It is interesting to see the dangers of radiation and how far the technology in our field has come over the years. Who would have ever thought this would have occurred and could have been prevented. I really liked how you presented the topic, provided historical events and included information on the prognosis of these women. Great job Ashley!

Great job on your presentation, Ashley! I am so glad that you posted your presentation because otherwise I wouldn’t have seen it and I wanted to watch someone give a presentation on this topic! It doesn’t surprise me that people had an obsession with radium back because it really look amazing when it’s on stuff. However, it makes me sad that these women were given such little pay and it makes me mad that they were told it was safe because I’m sure that the managers didn’t even research that much about it. I’m glad you included why they would put the paintbrush in their mouths because I had heard this was the main reason for the poisoning but wasn’t completely understanding why they did this in the first place. I thought it was crazy how one of the side affects was that their bones could glow from the radium! I am glad that the Radium Girls filed a lawsuit but think they should have received much more money. It’s sad how many lost their lives because of this but I am glad it brought about the need for OSHA.

Great presentation, Ashley! I was so glad to be able to watch your presentation because this was a topic I really wanted to watch someone give a presentation about. It makes sense to me what the fascination with radium was, because it really does look cool on things. However, it makes me mad that managers were not only paying these women a miniscule amount for their work, but also telling them it was safe (I don’t believe they even tried to research if it was or not). It was pretty crazy to me how you stated that their bones could glow from the radium as a side affect. I’m glad the radium girls filed a lawsuit but think they should have received much more money. It makes me sad how many women lost their lives but I am glad it opened the door for OSHA.

Hi Ashley!
This topic has always been very interesting to me! I actually just purchased the book so that I can read it this summer while taking a break from all the school work! I think the pictures you added were super interesting and portrayed what radiation can do to the human body over time. Im grateful for the medical advances and knowledge gained to protect us from the harmful rays of radiation while pursuing this field as a career. Great job!

Nice presentation Ashley. It is heartbreaking to see how these women lives were cut short just to increase productivity. While it did lead to OSHA being created, and safer conditions for workers we still have a society that values productivity and money over workers health. As time goes on, we hear more and more about products that used to be considered safe that now are not. Erring on the side of caution when using products either at home or work seems to be the safest option we currently have. Once again, night job!
